Let’s take a deep dive into two popular awards held recently: the Headies Awards, which took place on the 27th of April 2025 at 3 PM WAT, and the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA), held on the 8th of May 2025.

These events are highly anticipated by fans around the world and guess what? They delivered exactly what we hoped for!

At the Headies Awards, various artists showed up in elegant designs and looked absolutely stunning. Some of the notable winners included:

Davido (aka OBO), who received the Artist of the Year award,

REMA, who won Best Afrobeats Album of the Year for his album HEIS

Tems, who took home Best Recording of the Year for her hit song Burning, and

The late Mohbad (aka Imole), who was also honored among others.

Moving on to the AMVCA, which celebrates excellence in filmmaking, it was nothing short of spectacular. From Cultural Night to the Red Carpet and the main event everything was top-tier.

Nominees and guests arrived in grand style, and the ceremony did not disappoint. Some of the winners included:

Femi Adebayo , who received an award for his amazing movie Seven Doors,

Lateef Adedimeji, who was awarded Best Indigenous Movie for Lisabi, and

Mercy Aigbe, who won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Farmer’s Bride.

And that’s not all...

As the lights dimmed and the first note echoed, the crowd erupted. Lawrence Oyor and Gaise Baba took the stage with their remixed sound No Turning Back, and the audience was on fire, eagerly awaiting the biggest gbedu to drop. The energy was electric, and the song has been resonating far and wide.

In academic news, the University of Ibadan has taken center stage once again. A new intake, Oluwafunmilayo Michael (popularly known as Immaculate) from the prestigious Independence Hall, emerged winner of the 2025 University of Ibadan Student Union Oratory Competition. He was also crowned the One-Day Student Union President and celebrated accordingly.
