In addition to academic achievements, employers are also interested in candidates who have developed a range of transferable skills and have demonstrated their willingness to take on extra-curricular activities. Here are 5 skills and activities that can make you more employable.


LEADERSHIP SKILLS






It's crucial to highlight your leadership abilities in your CV. Even if you're not applying for a leadership position, include leadership abilities on your resume shows prospective employers that you can support a company's growth. Making a good impression and demonstrating your desire to exceed expectations will help you stand out by emphasizing your initiative-taking and team-management abilities.


By taking on leadership tasks, you may show that you have the ability to lead teams and assume responsibility. Volunteer to oversee group projects, plan activities, or run groups on campus. As an alternative, you might enroll in a leadership program or assume leadership positions in your community.


BELONGING TO AN ORGANIZATION OR A SOCIETY



What organization or society you belong to or have belonged to in the past is usually an area of interest for Human Resource Personnel’s or Recruiters. This might be almost anything, such as participating in the school's L AND D club, being a member of your department’s Press Organization, theatrical club or serving as an administrator on an online discussion board or also partaking in your Faculty Students’ Help Center if there’s one.

Being a member of a larger community gives you the chance to share your knowledge and abilities while also expanding your horizons and learning from others. Joining a group, club, or society can demonstrate: Teamwork, Managing time, particularly hard or soft talents in communication


VOLUNTEERING


Volunteering can demonstrate community involvement, Motivation, attitude of initiative, and shows willingness to work for a good cause. Participating in community services and charity events could give you experiences such as project management, team work and time management.


Majority believes that volunteering is not like working since one isn’t being paid, well that’s a bit true. However, one can consider volunteering similar to a job even though one isn’t being paid. You not only commit your free time to a cause you care about, but you also have obligations and deadlines that must be met or else a lot of people's lives suffer. Additionally, it helps you grow personally.

Recruiters will be quite interested to learn that, for instance, you volunteered in seeking grants for the homeless, visited an orphanage in other to create awareness on the importance of personal hygiene or even donated to a greater cause.

COMPETENCE IN MICROSOFT OFFICE




We’re in the 21st century where globalization is at its peak. Microsoft Office skills is a must have for everyone; if you are interested in a white collar job or even if you aren’t interested. Majority of people are familiar with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, but are you proficient at using them? 80% of businesses globally utilize the MS Office Suite even recruiters often consider these skills as a requirement the top four MS programs are Excel for spreadsheets, Outlook for email, PowerPoint for visual presentations, and Word for desktop publishing. Get a skill in at least two!!


ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS:


Employers are constantly seeking candidates with creative ideas and entrepreneurial experience. Take a chance and launch a concept as a side project, like a blog or a business. Your capacity to think creatively, understand how to adapt, and maximize production with less resources will be on display.


In conclusion, Extra-curricular activities show the employer more than just the hard skills; it also shows the soft skills you possess that cannot be taught in a classroom such as leadership, problem solving, and adaptability, creativity and communication skills.
