NSASAITES EXPRESS THEIR OPINIONS ABOUT THE PROTEST

On Tuesday 16th July 2024, The Student Union president (Oloye Aweda Bolaji) decided that the union has resolved to embark on a peaceful demonstration by 5:30am on Wednesday 17th July 2024 due to unjustifiable increment in fees and other anti- student policies on campus.

By 5:30am on Wednesday, students came out in masses to participate in the protest, other students decided to stay back in their hostels, those that came to protest were adviced to cover their faces with face caps, nose masks just in case of any incident. The issues that led to the protest were: Electricity Rationing, fee increment, Buying GES textbooks, Victimization of three fees must fall protesters, Welfarism of students on campus including conditions of facilities in halls of residence, security conditions on campus e.t.c. As a result of this, some Nsasaites were asked about share their opinion about the protest.

An Nsasaite said "the protest was necessary considering the fact that the management has choked the students with heavy bills and it did not sit well with students. It felt like we were in a cage and couldn't express ourselves. The protest was the only way we could voice out our opinion"

Another Nsasaite said "The Union came up with a good idea but the issue of no cab, keke e.t.c was not necessary. Also, in subsequent times, necessary information about a protest should be passed across early so everyone will be prepared"

Lastly, An Nsasaite said "the protest was okay but should not be used when there are subsequent issues in the university. Other means like dialogue should be incorporated except if need be for a protest.

The protest was a peaceful and successful one. Five out of seven issues raised were sorted and the remaining two are being deliberated on. Students however await the results of the remaining issues raised.
