The atmosphere was electric on the SUB Pitch of the University of Ibadan as students gathered in numbers to witness one of the most anticipated matches in the SEALS Cup tournament. The clash featured two determined teams “Sociology Department and LARIS”, both ready to prove their strength and make their mark in the competition. The match kicked off promptly at 2:30 PM under bright skies and a buzzing crowd.
Sociology came into the game with an ambitious mindset, adopting a 3-4-3 formation, showing they meant business. Their players looked sharp, focused, and well-organized from the start. The midfield played a key role in the opening minutes, holding possession and distributing the ball effectively to the wings and forwards.

In the 20th minute, the breakthrough came. Sociology’s central midfielder (8), known for his composure and accurate passes, stepped up to take a free kick just outside the box. With calm precision, he curled the ball beautifully into the base ground level of the net, leaving the LARIS goalkeeper rooted to the spot. The crowd erupted in celebration as Sociology took a deserved 1-0 lead.
After the goal, LARIS pushed forward, trying to respond. Their forwards attempted to break through Sociology’s defense, but they were met with strong resistance. Sociology’s defenders stood their ground, showing great teamwork and discipline. Despite some pressure from LARIS, the first half ended at 3:05 PM with Sociology still in front.

After a ten-minute break, the second half resumed at 3:15 PM. LARIS came back with more urgency, making quick passes and trying to stretch the Sociology defense. But Sociology remained calm and kept their shape. Their goalkeeper made a few important saves to keep the team in the lead.
Sociology didn’t just sit back. They continued to look for chances to score another goal. Their strikers kept the LARIS defense busy and forced the goalkeeper to stay alert. Throughout the match, Sociology recorded six shots on target, showing that they were always looking to extend their lead.

The crowd stayed engaged, cheering, chanting, and reacting to every near miss and tackle. The energy on the pitch and in the stands made the game even more exciting.
As the match approached the final minutes, LARIS tried everything they could to equalize, but Sociology’s defense stood firm. The referee blew the final whistle at 3:45 PM, and Sociology celebrated a hard-earned 1-0 victory.
It was a strong performance from the Sociology team. Their ability to score early, control the midfield, and defend with confidence played a major role in their win. The central midfielder’s brilliant free-kick was the moment of magic that made the difference.
LARIS, on the other hand, showed courage and did not give up until the very end. With more training and sharper finishing, they will surely bounce back in their next game.
For Sociology, this win gives them not just three points, but also momentum as they move forward in the SEALS Cup tournament. If they continue playing like this, they will be a team to watch closely in the coming rounds.
