Growing concerns have emerged among Sociology students at the University of Ibadan as the current Social director of the department, Dike Emmanuel Ikechukwu popularly known as Nuel faces criticism for failing to live up to expectations and fulfill his campaign promises.

During his campaign, the social director pledged to revamp the department’s communication system, fair hearing of the people's need and ensure active publicity of departmental activities like talent hunt, art exhibition, paint and sip and so on . His manifesto, which emphasized visibility, engagement, and consistency, had inspired hope among students who envisioned a more vibrant and media-active NSASA community.

Disappointment is brewing among NSASAITES, as the social director has fallen short of expectations. Apart from organizing a single event early in his administration, the social director has reportedly gone silent, with little to no communication about departmental updates or upcoming activities.

“It’s disappointing,” a 200-level student noted. “We voted for him because he seemed passionate about communication and innovation. But now, it feels like he’s gone completely silent.”

Some students attribute the situation to a possible lack of commitment, while others cite academic workload as a contributing factor. Nonetheless, the general fact remains that accountability and consistency are essential for effective leadership.

As the semester progresses, students are calling for a renewed sense of responsibility from the social director, urging him to revive the department’s communication channels and reconnect with the student body.

"Leadership is about showing up, even when it’s difficult", said another student. "We just hope he finds his voice again and fulfills the promises he made". For now, members of the Department of Sociology watch closely, hoping their social director will step up and re-engage with his duties.

The question NSASAITES ask is how does he want to organize these events within the remaining 4 weeks of lectures and 4 weeks of examinations.
