As the world is facing its challenge of climate change Nigeria is also facing its own unique environmental concerns. From devastating floods to crippling drought, the country is facing harsh realities of a climate change. Climate change is having a devastating impact on Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations. Rising temperature and changing rainfall patterns are affecting agricultural productivity, leading to food insecurity and economic hardship. The changing climate is affecting our crops, livestock and way of life.

Nigeria’s environment is facing numerous challenges like deforestation, Nigeria has one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world, the country loses about 350,000 hectares of forest annually which leads to soil erosion , loss of biodiversity and increased greenhouse gas emission which is part of the reasons why the ozone layer deplete.

The causes of these environmental concerns starts from human population which places pressure on the environments, the increase in industrialization leads to increased pollution and environmental degradation due to the emission of gas and disposition of waste.

Some of the solutions to environmental concerns are, adopting sustainable development practices that balances economic , social and environmental needs. Transitioning to renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power to reduce dependence on fossils fuels.
