There are a lot of fields where social media has helped promote and create visibility for example, the entertainment industry is a very broad aspect of business and individuals that are involved in creating, producing, distributing, and monetizing content designed to entertain different types of people . There are different forms of entertainment and they include; filmmaking, television, music, theater, gaming, publishing, and live performances.
In this recent age, social media has helped to promote this form of entertainment and helped to reach the right audience through various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat etc. Each of these platforms have their different features from the other but one of their sole purposes is for entertainment. For example, you can watch clips of a new movie on Facebook , hear the latest updates about the entertainment world on
Instagram, search for your favorite celebrity on Snapchat and start your own form of entertainment by creating content on TikTok .
This social media has brought about bloggers who help to circulate gist and gossip all over the world. In Nigeria, there are various bloggers that help to spread trending stories in the entertainment industry as Linda Ifeoma Ikeji popularly known as Linda Ikeji, Yabaonline, Krastv and many others. Another means by which social media has helped in the entertainment industry is through content creation specifically for the circulation of newly produced music and a very good platform for this is TikTok. Daniel's release of “marhaba” a song that went viral on TikTok due to the amount of videos created for the promotion of the song.
Social media is a fast digital means of passing information about the entertainment world to its audience as when a new movie is released, social media helps to create awareness fast, also when an artist releases a new song social media makes sure to pass on the news to the audience. A very good example was when the movie a “Tribe called Judah” directed the popular actress Funke Akindele released its trailer and was posted on various social media platforms, this made people anticipate the movie and when it came out it had lots of reviews both good and bad that were also posted on this same social media pages .
In conclusion, Social media is the backbone of the entertainment industry because most times they determine how well the form of entertainment will spread and how it would be reviewed by its audience .
